BING -Does it really bing?

Microsoft has recently launched its answer to Google Search, BING as it is known as.
Well MS developers have really exploited AJAX to give a vast search platform.
But if you compare it with Google (noting that Bing has an old ancestor -Live Search), it turns out to be mere another name in the directory of search engine.
It is far lagging behind Google on grounds of Comprehensiveness and freshness.

So friends let us take a bing test

1.Open www.bing.com
2. Type bing.com and hit return

Analyse the result, you will not find the site bing.com(instead you may find bing.co.in)

Well www.bitpatna.ac.in site is live for more than a year.
So let us bing for bitpatna.ac.in
1. Open www.Bing.com
2. Type bitpatna.ac.in and hit return

You will not find it

Now take these tests on Google
1. Open www.google.com
2. Type Google and hit return
You will find it listed

Search for bitpatna.ac.in

You will find it on top of results

Now its your turn to decide

Bing fails to be as comprehensive as Google . It cannot bing itself. Well I dont say that bing can never be at par with Google but at present , to the internet community Googling is preferable to Binging

Understand She through C

Hey I found this piece of code on one website….

Its really interesting

Years back this piece of program describing struct of She using C was quite popular. Let Us C if it still has takers.

He's gone to die

He loves Hindi songs.
Just like you.
He hates injections.
Just like you
he cried each time Amitabh died.
Just like you.
He’s been in love once or twice.
Just like you.
He’ll bleed if you cut him.
Just like you.
He’s happiest at home.
Just like you.
He loves the smell of rain on sun scorched earth.
Just like you.
He cheered India at old Trafford.
Just like you.
He dreams for his children.
Just like you.
He’s gone to die for a stranger.
And that stranger is you.’

RIP 2009 Its over Finally

Today the final codes were submitted and the fortnight long tension got resolved. This accounted for  the first comprehensive project in my resume and I am sure is one of the  most comprehensive one done during RIP 09. My topic was Engineering College Seat Allocation Process. This is very similar to the counselling process and we tried to implement in the same way  we had perceived during the admission time. This  is all over and was really an interesting  learning experience. The whole development process could have been more productive had we been told to  begin implementation a bit early. 15 days back I had no idea of the technology we were going to implement. While my partner was reluctant with EJB I was particularly interested in using JSP .After a long fuss we finally settled with a mixture of Java, Beans, JSP and Servlets. The process had a  tough side too .While 1 week ago  we had nothing other than the design doc  and an idea of what to implement. We had gone through a long way and had to devote 14-18 hours a day to complete it on time. Infact we  wasted more than 48 hours in developing   adn debugging the login system. Right now I am sending  the final version of Design Doc.

However this has  started a  great tradition of remote internship  which I believe  shall be soon adopted by many colleges. In fact we are the first one to implement such concept. I would like to thank  Mindtree Limited  in general and my mentor Ananthshri Muralidharan in particular for making it a grand success. Even one cannot forget the initiative by Jayanta Dutta, the BIT alumni who made all this possible. Finally I would thank  my department and T& P cell who were keen to make it a success(Niloy Sir and  B B Pant Sir).

Building Rome in a day

The present   project going on with Mindtree  has overburdened me. The main problem comes form the fact that we are all new to the technology. The whole process was running smoothly all of a sudden the deadlines appeared and our schedule got damaged. In spite of our best efforts I don’t see that these are going to be completed due time. Let me see if I can get for an extension  tomorrow. To make the matter worse Prashant has chosen to implement the whole system using beans which I don’t think is easier. This gives an impression that there is no scope for its completion before 30th. Few groups have managed to complete  because they got a simpler one

After many days today we enjoyed cold weather. Although it did not rain yet it  was cold throughout. This type of summer is being witnessed after a long span of 30  or more years. If the situation prevails for more than a week it  may lead to severe draught.

May the Soul of Satyam rest in peace

Today I learned from morning newspapers that the small  kid(Satyam) who was kidnapped 1 day ago  has been killed. My deepest condolences to the grieving family  and prayers of peace to the departed soul.  It was totally shocking to learn that the murderers were boys of age 14-15. Its hard to guess which breed of humanity these devils come from. They were inspired by watching Prakash Jha’s movie Apaharan. They did the whole incident in a truly filmic way. Police seems to have sighed  relief  by arresting the killers.  But it seems to me that whole incident is not so simple as it seems to be. There are  many more people behind the scene. If  I analyse the  raising graph of crimes in the city past few days , it appears that these are centrally guided  and it will rise  more in  forthcoming days. I clearly say that they are those old   promoters of Kidnapping industry , previously headquartered in Bihar. My doubt is  aggravated by the fact that , why the police couldn’t get into the root of plot  made by children and recover the kid. Yet  they  could  recover the body when he was killed. It is impossible for children of age 14 to plan such trap alone. Actually they are mere pawns in the game, the real player is somewhere else.

Laluji to be the next Railway Minister

In the previous few days I have been busy with some of my pending works  and have finally completed over 80% of them. The most awaited website www.webmarked.net is on the verge of being release. Yesterday I uploaded its beta version (http://beta.webmarked.net) .The internship has finally started yesterday. Unfortunately there was a link failure with Bangalore so instead of video conferencing , we had to resort to  Telephonic conferencing. Mindtree has  updated us with the idea of projects but the whole details shall be sounded later on by concerned mentors. Let’s hope for its fruitful culmination.

The election results have come out  and were indeed unexpected for me. I had thought of some negatives  effects of incumbency. Yet it is difficult  to make Congress out of power , when backed by someone of Gandhi –Nehru Family. Previous days I had ample discussion with my friends over the issue. I was shocked by their views and the degree of their misguidedess. They simply ought to believe  what politicians say, instead of questioning it rationally. I will later explain what I mean by these few lines. Although I am a  complete Rightist  I wish Laluji to be the Railway Minister. He really took the whole railways department  to  the right path. I don’t believe in his profit  making figures as these as more accountancy than reality. I base my views on what I perceive. It was during his tenure that the fares went down in spite of rising fuel  prices. The fare of AC  has gone down by 24-28 % since last 5 years while for Sleeper its 8-10%, in contrast to 10%(average) inflation rate. Previous ministers were adamant to raise the fare for compensating losses. If you  account  for the trend of fare hike as in previous ministry ,  the  percentage drop will be more pronouncive..

He Burned his boats

A long time ago there was a great General who was faced with a situation which made it necessary for him to make a drastic decision to insure his success on the battlefield. He was about to send his army on shore to face a powerful enemy, whose men outnumbered his. He loaded his soldiers into boats, and sailed to face the enemies on shore. When they reached the shore, he ordered them to unload the soldiers and cargoes. He then ordered for all the ships and boats to be burned.

Addressing his men before the battle, he said, "You see the ships and boats going up in smoke. That means that we cannot leave these shores alive unless we win! We now, have no choice – either we win, or we perish."

They WON!

SUCCESS PRINCIPLES

Just like the General, we have to burn all our bridges if we want to achieve success. There can be no room for retreat and we must have an attitude of, "Whatever it takes", taking into consideration that we can have anything we desire provided we do not violate Universal Laws and the rights of our fellow human beings. Do not dwell on the past. Move forward with confidence and we will surely see success, unexpected in common hours.

THE GOLDEN TELEPHONE-

This is really a nice story , I found it  somewhere

An American decided to write a book about famous churches around the world.

So he bought a plane ticket and took a trip to China.

On his first day he was inside a church taking photographs when he
noticed a golden telephone mounted on the wall with a sign that read
"$10,000 per call".

The American, being intrigued, asked a priest who was strolling by what the telephone was used for.

The priest replied that it was a direct line to heaven and that for $10,000 you could talk to God.

The American thanked the priest and went along his way.

Next stop was in japan. There, at a very large cathedral, he saw the same golden telephone with the same sign under it.

He wondered if this was the same kind of telephone he saw in china and he asked a nearby nun what its purpose was.

She told him that it was a direct line to heaven and that for $10,000
he could talk to God.

"O.K., thank you," said the American.

He then travelled to Pakistan, Srilanka, Russia, Germany and France.

In every church he saw the same golden telephone
with the same "$10,000 per call" sign under it. The American, upon leaving Vermont decided to travel to up to India to see if Indians had the same phone.

He arrived in India, and again, in the first church he entered, there
was the same golden telephone, but this time the sign under it read
"One Rupee per call."

The American was surprised so he asked the priest about the sign.
"Father, I've travelled all over World and I've seen this same golden
telephone in many churches. I'm told that it is a direct line to
Heaven,
but in the US the price was $10,000 per call.

Why is it so cheap here?"

The priest smiled and answered, "You're in India now, son - it's a
local call".

CAST NEGATIVE VOTES IF YOU DONT FIND ANY GOOD CANDIDATE

An e-mail has recently been circulating in which it has been argued that section 49-O of Conduct of Election Rules, 1961 gives a voter the right to cast negative vote, i.e. right to cast vote but not to vote any particular candidate. It has also been stated in this e-mail that if the total number of “NO VOTES” exceeds the total number of valid votes, then that polling will be cancelled and there will have to be re-polling. Besides, the candidature of the contestants will be removed and they cannot contest the re-polling, since people had already expressed their decision on them.

It is true that there is a section 49-O in The Conduct of Election Rules, 1961 in which voters have been given the right not to vote. Section 49-O says:

Elector  deciding  not  to  vote - If  an  elector,  after  his
electoral  roll number has been duly entered in the register of voters
in  Form-17A and has put his signature or thumb impression thereon  as
required  under  sub-rule (1) of rule 49L, decided not to  record  his
vote,  a remark to this effect shall be made against the said entry in
Form  17A  by  the  presiding  officer  and  the  signature  or  thumb
impression of the elector shall be obtained against such remark.

 http://lawmin.nic.in/ld/subord/cer1.htm

But there is no rule according to which if the total number of “NO VOTES” exceeds the total number of valid votes, then that polling will be cancelled and there will have to be re-polling. There is also no provision for cancellation of candidature of contestants or forfeiture of their right to re-contest.

It appears that many people believe that by not voting, all problems of corruption in politics will disappear. While we understand the desperation of a voter about the corrupt candidates, just casting negative votes cannot solve this problem. Since negative votes are not counted, the bad candidates would still be elected on the basis of whatever valid votes have been cast.

If, just for the sake of argument, it is assumed that everybody had cast negative votes, what would happen? Re-polling will take place and the same candidates will be eligible to contest election again! So there will be simply extra expenditure of tax payers’ money, nothing else!

In any democratic system, people will have to elect their representatives for governance. Not choosing any representative would be inviting only anarchy and chaos. Without elected representatives, who would run the government?

Hence, the solution lies not in rejecting all candidates, but in electing the best available candidate in each constituency.

Life these days

Oh its again the classes are over  and 5 days great  preparatory leave has begun

Indeed these are the days which I often lounge for. You know why? Because, the boring classes are not there.

One is free to do whatever one likes.

However  me very tensed these  and I am afraid  whether they will be completed. One is my semester long  dream of WEBMARKET . I won’t disclose much (although I know that nobody is going to read it) but   this is one in which I  have used the best of my LAMP skills and  the day it gets finished , it will  be a instant hit( at least I believe).

The other is Energy assessment work by NPC. One more is BIT Alumni Portal for BITOSA  Bihar Chapter.

You know I have a very bad habit of aggregating all  works and pending it to the last minute. But you see I am not to be blamed for this  I was too much involved in TECHNIKA and thus I could not finish them.

Hey I  want to ask one question to all readers ,whether my English  has gone below par standards(in terms of  vocabulary and idiomatic usage). I am out of touch to any literature books past 3 years  hence I feel that my writing skills are degrading. Thank you in advance

TECHNIKA '09 and its memories

Today was a very important day for me and my college. It was the concluding day for TECHNIKA- the technical festival  and AURA’d09 –the cultural festival. For the past one week I had been totally  engadged with  TECHNIKA related  tasks.  Being a student coordinator ,  your credibility comes to stake if the program fails, but fortunately no such thing happened. As a whole  it was a good and memorable event.   I had two events under me, iMobile-the mobile programming contest and WEBMASTER- the web designing contest.  While IMobile was really a  frustrating for me because of the count of participation , Webmaster was  a pretty success. There was only one  incident which hurt me during whole process.  This occurred two days back when  few  published a notice stating re-registration irrespective of online registration. Later no one claimed to have done it.  However it made me learn two  lessons. Never rely on your friends  and do whatever you feel is right. I  missed the limelight  for two days and neither  my  work was acknowledged however I don’t  see any  point in it. Yesterday when I was  busy with some task one boy came with Prashant and they rquested me for a print out. I was  enquiring  him ,he was from BIT Deoghar; suddenly he said  that I had a studied in Deoghar. I was astonished  how a person whom  I don’t know , can know that I studied at Deoghar  few years back.  I asked him  then he revealed that he   found it from my website. This small thing made me very happy. This made me believe that your labour never goes in vain. Till now I wondered if anyone  knew about my website, now I am  confident  and  this gives me the  power  to work  ahead.  For the first time in life my photograph got published in newspaper today . I had not seen it   but few hours ago as I was returning from  AURA   I glimpsed through the notice board containing paper cuttings of yesterday’s event.  These  things are memorable part of my life and make you  miss your college days in later part of life.

Days of TECHNIKA

Now the days of TECHNIKA are approaching ,we are still  running for sponsors, I am sure we will be able to   gather around 2.5  but not sure whether the program will be a grand success or not. With  3 parallel programs TECHNIKA(technical festival),AURA(cultural festival) and Alumni meet, it is going to be a tough nut for the college to  handle all of them. Today  there was a short introduction session  about various  events, but the gathering was really disappointing. There were hardly 100 students present. One major  problem I saw was that the speakers had no previous experience  and they bored the audience. I was sitting at the back and found it hard to understand what they were speaking. Due to this almost half of the audience had gone till  my turn came to speak and I was devoid of any interested audience. Tomorrow we have  kept another session ,especially for my events. One thing I  am learning  from all these is how to manage a  team. By nature I am very much short-tempered, but I am learning to control them and how to get my job done. These things will be great for my  life experience

Jindagi ek safar hai suhana

In my childhood days i often heard this song , so much so that it has gotta in my mind. But  seeing my life at present ,I find it a  totally false statement.I am not pessimistic ,but when I  analyze my work,my acheivements and compare it to the total effort i put in and the time i devoted ,I feel sorry for myself. You know why I am saying all this? Kids of my age have gone to be celebrities, stars, and I am still struggling with  my life. From morning to the night I am caught in the incessant storm of work(better say time wastage because output is  mere a trifle).I cannot devote time to me.I  rarely  get time to analyze my actions, my past, and present. This makes whole thing complicated and all of a sudden it messes your life.
Please readers dont get carried away with my passive thoughts.Woh sharukh ka dialog yaad hai na .....agar sab kuchh thik nahin hua to samjho ki kahani abhi kahtam nahin hui....(Forgive me I have forgotten)
